The TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener MK-2

1. For which knives is the TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener MK-2 suitable?

The TYROLIT Knife Sharpener is suitable for all European knives and every knife size. Handmade stones of the premium knife sharpener ensure the ideal sharpness of your knives – whether large meat and small vegetable knives, paring knives with a curved blade, cheese or chopping knives. However, it is not suitable for ceramic knives.

2. How is the knife sharpener operated?

Moisten the sharpening stones under running water. For the oak wood version, be sure to remove it from its magnetic holder beforehand. Then fix the stones again on the body.

The right angle is crucial when sharpening. The perfect sharpening angle of 15 degrees is preset for the TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener MK-2 if you hold the knife at a right angle to the base surface. The cutting edge points downwards. Make sure that the blade is placed evenly. Apply only gentle pressure. The sharpening movement takes place from top to bottom.

3. Why does the knife sharpener have two stones?

To get a perfectly sharpened knife, first use the (moistened) sharpening stone marked “Sharp” with the coarse grit. Use the fine-grained sharpening stone marked “Finish” for fine grinding.

4. What grain sizes does the Knife Sharpener-MK2 have?

The Knife Sharpener MK2 has 2 different grinding stones, which are 100% made in Tyrol. The sharpening stone with coarse 400 grit is suitable for pre-grinding and particularly blunt blades, the fine-grained sharpening stone with 800 grit is suitable for fine grinding.

5. How do you clean the knife sharpener?

To ensure that you enjoy your knife sharpener for a long time, please note that the sharpening stones and body must be looked after differently. For the sharpening stones, use an abrasive fabric. under slightly flowing water with circular movements over the combination segment until the surface feels slightly rough again and presents itself in a uniform manner. The segment is cleaned by the resulting grinding sludge and the increasingly rounded abrasive grain is washed out. Sharpening characteristics are restored by exposing the abrasive grain underneath. Then allow the combination segment to dry sufficiently. Drying can take several days.

Maintain the body with a soft, slightly damp cloth. In the wood version, you can remove the sharpening stones and clean them separately. Let them dry well before fixing them again in the magnetic holder. Never clean Knife Sharpener MK-2 in the dishwasher!

6. Can the knives heat up during sharpening and thus soften?

No, heating the material is impossible with this sharpening process and with this mechanical sharpening device.

7. Do you have to treat the knives after sharpening?

After sharpening, clean the knives with a clean cloth to remove any grinding residues.

8. How long do the sharpening stones last?

The TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener MK-2 is durable and solidly constructed. Using up the stones due to numerous sharpening applications is practically impossible. Please keep in mind that the ceramic sharpening stones break when dropped. If there are signs of wear, we recommend treating the stones with an abrasive fabric. This allows the segments to be roughened again to achieve the desired sharpening effect.

9. What is the difference between the wood and acrylic versions?

The wood version sharpening stones are removable.

10. Are there spare parts for the knife sharpener?

TYROLIT life Edge Tuning Set "All in One"

What is the best way to clean ceramic and elastic files?

In order to free the pores from metal residues on the edge and to release the abrasive grain, we recommend cleaning from time to time with water, soap and an abrasive paper (400 grit).

Can I purchase edge tuning set products separately?

All components of the edge tuning set can also be purchased separately:

What is the difference between ceramic and elastic files?

The difference between the files is in their binding. While the elastic files have a synthetic resin bond and are flexible (following the shape), the ceramic files are ceramic-bonded and stiff. As a rule, elastic files are used after ceramic files.

What do I need elastic files for?

Elastic files represent an optimal and cheaper alternative to conventional diamond files. They are suitable for polishing and fine-tuning the edges. Due to their elasticity, an even contact zone is achieved for all ski radii.

TYROPOL

1. What can Tyropol be used for?

Tyropol can be used for polishing and cleaning non-ferrous and precious metals, stainless steel, chrome, glass and glass ceramics, plastics, ceramics and acrylic. Please use Tyropol with care on coated and sensitive surfaces. If in doubt, Tyropol should be tested in an inconspicuous place. The paste is not suitable for plexiglass and polycarbonate glass. In the case of stubborn soiling, the product should be allowed to act briefly and the surface should then be cleaned as described.

Special fields of application:

  • Plastic: Removing discoloration in bowls, yellowing and contamination on plastic window frames and other surfaces (e.g. kettle)
  • Ceramic hobs: Removing stubborn residues on the ceramic hob
  • Plumbing: Removing residue or discoloration on wash basins, bathtubs, shower trays and tiles – the product is not a bathroom cleaner in the traditional sense!
  • Ceramics: Removing cutlery marks from plates, cups, cookware
  • Stainless steel: Polishing pots, sinks, etc.
2. How is Tyropol used?

Please apply Tyropol sparingly with a damp cloth/sponge. Then clean/polish the surface. Then clean the surface with water.

3. Is Tyropol harmful to the environment and health?

No, Tyropol is environmentally friendly and harmless to health. In addition, no preservatives are used.

4. What are the ingredients in Tyropol?

Polish, 5-10% soap (sodium tallowate, natural fats and oils, glycerin, perfume, turpentine, tetrasodium EDTA, CI 77891, CI 11680).

5. How should Tyropol be stored?

Tyropol should be stored at room temperature, but not above 25°C. If you find small water droplets on the surface when opening the product, this is not a product defect. These can occur if the recommended storage temperature is briefly exceeded.

TYFIX ABRASIVE CLEANER

1. What can Tyfix be used for?

TYROLIT sanding cleaner is suitable for cleaning and treating hard surfaces. Please do not use the Tyfix on painted, shiny, coated and sensitive surfaces. Application areas of the abrasive cleaner range from household and hobby to home improvement. You can find some application examples here

2. What happens if residues are not removed after using the abrasive cleaner?

Please note that abrasive grain and dust are released when using the abrasive cleaner. Please remove all residues, because scratches or other damage to sensitive surfaces such as e.g. ceramic hobs or parquet floors can occur through the transfer of abrasive particles.

3. Why is Tyfix available in two different versions?

Two abrasive cleaners with different grit sizes – one fine and one coarse – enable precise application for different materials and lead to optimal results. The appropriate abrasive cleaner can be selected depending on the surface and degree of soiling. The coarse abrasive cleaner (black) is suitable for high removal, the fine abrasive cleaner (gray) for less removal and for subsequent cleaning.

4. Do I need additional detergents for cleaning?

Tyfix cleans without adding any chemical cleaning agents. It is kind to the environment and health and is free of harmful ingredients.

5. How long does the Tyfix last?

Product wear depends on the intensity of use. Please note that when using the abrasive cleaner, abrasive grain and dust are released and the product therefore wears out.

TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener

1. For which knives is the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener suitable?

The TYROLIT Knife Sharpener is suitable for all European knives and every knife size. Handmade stones of the premium knife sharpener ensure the ideal sharpness of your knives – regardless of whether they are serrated bread knives, large meat and small vegetable knives, paring knives with a curved blade, cheese or chopping knives.

2. How is the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener operated?

For optimal functioning and best sharpening results, dampen the stones under the tap before use. Thanks to magnetic technology, these can be easily removed and replaced – absolutely drip-free. To sharpen your knife, place it horizontally at the tip of the sharpening stone and pull it down and towards you in an arc. Be sure to stop this movement in time to avoid cutting into the bottom plate. Repeat this application step on both sides and process the entire blade until you have achieved the desired degree of sharpness for your knife.

3. How do you clean the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener?

Clean the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener with a damp cloth after each use. To do this, remove the stones. To remove the stones easily, first pull the lower end of the stone off the holder. Sharpening marks on the stones can be easily removed with water. Please do not put the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener in the dishwasher for cleaning.

4. Why does the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener have three stones?

The three hand-worked precision sharpening stones always offer the right grit for every blade quality. The rough grit is suitable for rough grinding and particularly worn blades. The stone with the medium sharpening grit brings the cutting edge of your knife back into shape and the stone with the finest grit ensures fine grinding and honing before each use.

5. Can the knives heat up during sharpening and thus soften?

No, heating the material is impossible with this sharpening process and with this mechanical sharpening device.

6. Do you have to treat the knives after sharpening?

After sharpening, clean the knives with a clean cloth to remove any grinding residues.

7. How long do the sharpening stones last?

The TYROLIT Knife Sharpener is durable and solidly constructed. Using up the stones due to numerous sharpening applications is practically impossible. Please keep in mind that the ceramic sharpening stones break when dropped.

8. Are there spare parts for the TYROLIT Knife Sharpener?

TYROLIT life Iceline knife

1. Of what material are the knives made?

Rustproof blades are forged from a piece of the highest quality stainless steel and are optimally protected against corrosion by multi-phase ice hardening (to 56 HRC) (steel material 1.4116). Finely polished blade surfaces and balanced cradle lines along the cutting edges guarantee long-lasting sharpness and the best cutting characteristics.

2. How do I clean knives properly?

TYROLIT life Iceline knives should be cleaned with warm dishwashing water without aggressive detergent immediately after use and dried with a soft cloth. To protect the user, it is advisable always to dry the knife with a cloth along the back of the blade. Bacteria, on the blade from cuttings, attack the surface of the knife steel and slowly reduce the quality and hardness of the steel.

It is not recommended to clean knives in the dishwasher, because high temperatures and detergent attack the knife handle and reduce the hardness of the blade steel.

3. Of what material is the knife handle made?

The black, ergonomically shaped handle is made of plastic. It ensures good and safe handling and impresses with its extraordinarily attractive design and feel. Blade and handle are joint-tight, as well as inextricably linked.

TYROLIT life Cutting Board

1. Of what wood is the cutting board made?

The finest beech wood was chosen for the cutting board. Beech is one of the most common deciduous trees in Austria and, due to its hardness, is particularly gentle on the blades, hygienic and robust. This cutting board with juice groove is therefore the perfect base for all cutting work.

2. How do I clean the cutting board?

Remove the sharpening stone from the recess before cleaning or maintaining the cutting board. It is best to clean your cutting board by hand with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge. To remove grease and other stains, use a mild detergent. Never leave the cutting board in water for a long time and never put your cutting board in the dishwasher for cleaning.

Wood is a natural product and can warp easily. Therefore, do not expose the cutting board to heat and sunlight.

For a longer shelf life, it is recommended to rub cutting boards with cooking or olive oil regularly. This process ensures longer shelf life. At the same time, it is impregnated so that it is more difficult for liquids to penetrate the wood.

3. Which knives can I sharpen with the ceramic stone?

With the TYROLIT life sharpening stone, you can sharpen all knives with a straight or curved blade. However, it is not suitable for ceramic knives and those with serrated edges!

4. How do I sharpen my knives?

Take the sharpening stone out of the recess in the cutting board and moisten it under

running water.

Place the sharpening stone back into the recess with the writing down and pull both sides of the knife blade over the stone several times in the cutting direction. Make sure to pull the entire blade evenly – from the shaft to the tip.

For an optimal sharpening result, hold the blade at a slight angle (15 degrees). Make sure that the blade is placed evenly.

Finally, clean the knife under running water.

5. What should I pay attention to when using and cleaning the ceramic sharpening stone?

Please only sharpen clean, grease-free knives. To avoid injuries when sharpening, the sharpening stone should be left in the recess. The grinding dust that occurs during sharpening can be easily removed with a damp cloth. If necessary, the sharpening stone can be cleaned with an abrasive fabric under running water. Let the sharpening stone dry before you put it back in the recess of the cutting board. Never put the sharpening stone in the dishwasher for cleaning!! Improper handling can break the ceramic sharpening stone.

TYROLIT life Nail Files

1. Why are the nail files supplied in a set?

Two different files ensure perfect nails. The black, coarse file is ideal for shortening and shaping your nails. The white file with a fine surface ensures a smooth nail finish and sealing. The result is particularly soft and smooth nail edges that protect your nails from rapid tearing and splintering.

2. Is there storage for the files?

The nail files are delivered in an elegant and practical case and fit perfectly in every handbag.

3. How long do TYROLIT life Nail Files last?

Ceramic files are characterized by very little wear. They also have very good characteristics, are easy to clean and therefore have a long service life.

4. Are the nail files unbreakable?

The nail files are not unbreakable, but a high drop or strong pressure is required to break the files.

5. How do I clean the nail files?

The best way to clean the nail files is under running water. Then dry the files with a cloth.

1. For which knives is TYROLIT life Knife Sharpener MK-2 suitable?

The TYROLIT Knife Sharpener Compact is suitable for all European knives and every knife size. Handmade stones of the premium knife sharpener ensure the ideal sharpness of your knives – whether large meat and small vegetable knives, paring knives with a curved blade, cheese or chopping knives. 2. How is the knife sharpener operated?

Take the combination sharpening stone from its wooden holder and moisten it under running water. Then put it back in the recess or stand it upright in the oblique groove. You can work on your knives in both positions.

The right angle is crucial when sharpening. If you place the sharpening stone in the oblique-angled groove of the wooden holder and hold the knife at right angles to the work surface, the perfect sharpening angle of 15 degrees is preset. The cutting edge points downwards. Make sure that the blade is placed evenly. Apply only gentle pressure. The sharpening movement takes place from top to bottom.

Of course, knives can also be sharpened on the lying stone. For an optimal sharpening result, hold the blade at a slight angle (15 degrees).

3. Why does the knife sharpener have two stones?

The darker, coarser side of the sharpening stone is suitable for rough grinding, the lighter, finer side for fine grinding.

To get a perfectly sharpened knife, first use the (moistened) darker side of the sharpening stone for pre-sharpening and the lighter side of the sharpening stone for fine sharpening.
